Very simple but interesting approach. I’m kind of fascinated with your choices on this piece as it presents a very different experience— one of reflection and quiet absorption of the story and the characters. The additions that you’ve made bring polish, and the sounds definitely pull the viewer in more. I don’t know that it’s viable as a game, but I do think it is venturing into something unique and altogether different— More like an experience, or an immersive art piece rather than gameplay which may or may not have been your goal. If you were aiming for more gameplay, I'd suggest more opportunities for player interaction. At any rate, this piece gives me room for thought, so congrats on a job done!

I literally could not stop playing this. I could not stop until I found myself back at the start. This game gets my dearest love. Not only do I relate so perfectly to cruising around as a little blob, but the ease of the controls are tuned perfectly which makes the game feel more enjoyable and less like a struggle. This is totally a viable product in the making if it went into a full multi-leveled platformer. The art style is great, the level itself is fun, the animations are lively, and the narrative and themes you’ve put together are cohesive and relatable. I love this game!! Wonderful job. I would definitely be a fan if you go on to make games in the future!

What a nice game! Such an enjoyable story with interesting concepts and characters. The design choices and art work all work really well together and feel cohesive. The ability to interact with the images to make choices on what to explore or investigate was great! I loved it! You nailed it on making an interactive narrative so well done and great job! It’s fun and totally viable— with the art fleshed out a bit more and the story extended for a few chapters, I could see this being a real product. Excellent work and kudos for leaning into your strengths to build a game that works for you. Thank you for creating and sharing this little experience!

Incredible. Chef’s kiss. My only feedback is that unless you know where the lanterns are positioned beforehand, it can be impossible to get them as you fall during the chasm part. So maybe placing in more of a sequence, or adjusting the gravity of the character so that you can navigate getting from one side to the other more easily. This game is not only beautiful in its art, but it is also lovely and so satisfying in its simplicity. You leaned into you skillset and made a game that let your strengths shine, and I think it’s a total success in every way— fun, theme, viability, etc. I knew you were going to make something beautiful and amazing based on your previous work, and I was not disappointed. I would definitely want to play any games you make in the future.

Wow, I can tell a lot of work went into this. Amazing job putting all of this together! Some of the jumps felt a little too narrow or high to managed, but overall it felt like there was enough challenge while also presenting opportunities for fun and skill. The art is very nice and I enjoyed the animations— for a moment I forgot that I was playing a game made by students in this class! Thematically, I don’t get an overall clear sense of story or narrative, but I do think that it is a fun game nonetheless. Well done and congrats!

The character is a little hard to move, I think it’s gravity might be a tiny bit too heavy, but perhaps you’d like players to wrangle that challenge which is totally legit. I love that you worked some direction into the game. Guiding the player as to what their goal is and where to go which is really important! Thematically, everything feels like it belongs in the same universe and I feel the harmony of your story. Really great work on this game! The animations are great, and the art feels unique to you. Really excited for you final game, whatever you decide to do, because I know it will be something unique. Great work!!

Fun game, nice animations, and I like the original art! The character feels a little heavy to move, but it actually presents an interesting and fun bit of challenge. While the scene is simple and straightforward, it does demonstrates your understanding of the basics, so I think you’ve got a great foundation to start with if you wanted to stay with unity for your final game and build upon this with more art and environment. Great work and good luck on your final!

I’m conflicted by my determination to make it past more than the first three platforms, while also not wanting to die for the 300th time lol. The character is a little bit hard to control, which I think is the heavy gravity, but it’s also a little too bulky for maneuvering tight jumps and spaces-- which you could scale down a bit to solve that. But! A challenging game might be what you’re going for, and if so you’ve succeeded. I’d just suggest unifying the art a little more so that we get a little bit of visual cohesion in the feel of the game. Great work! Can’t wait to play your final game!

Very cute and fun! I get a little sense of the world you’re creating, and I there’s fun motivation to move through the map to get all of the collectibles with avoiding enemies. It’s very viable, playable, and enjoyable. I like how you’ve laid the level out which reminds me of playing games like old school Kirby. This would be a great foundation to build from if you wanted to work on it more for your final game. If you do choose to stay with unity, think about adding some movement to your enemies to add some challenge! Well done and great work!

Such great work! Very viable, great theme going with the ghost and candles, the art is simple and cute, and the mechanics seem to work pretty well. All in all this is pretty solid work and you should be proud! I really can’t wait to see what you make for your final. If you stick with this game or do something else in unity, sound or music would be a fun addition. Congrats on this amazing work!

I actually got a lot of enjoyment out of this game for very different reasons Lol. Jumping with the character sideways and upside down while looking stiff as a board was hilarious. While it may not be the most viable game, it still gave me some entertainment. Bugs and glitches aside, I applaud your effort and the work you put in. Just keep at it and take your time with each component if you decide to stick with unity for your final game.

Amazing work! This is so fun, I’ve already replayed it a few time. The narrative you’ve got going on is a little random and silly but I think it works and is all in good fun. I could totally see this being the new flappy bird on the App Store. You might consider something that alerts the player when they lose health, either a visual indicator or sound. I didn't realize that the enemies lost me health at first because the meter was so discreet in it's removal of HP. This is still a very viable, playable and fun game. All in all, wonderful work and great job!

Very simple and straightforward, but it's playable and I’m glad to see you’ve got an understanding of the basics. I love the bear character! He starts to sink into some of the upper platforms so just watch out for that if you do your final game in unity. Nice work!

Very simple and straightforward, but I can tell where you’re going with it and the kinds of environments you’re trying to create and explore. The art is gorgeous and the scene feels dynamic, even in this one small sample. I’m curious to see what kind of story you will tell in your final, and how you will tie all of the pieces together thematically. Wonderful work!

Wow this character takes skill and practice to control, but I like that you provided some challenge! I like how you’ve got enemies moving at different speeds, which provides a little spice of variety. The art and characters are fun— I’m wondering how they might tie into a single story or theme. Really great crack at diving into Unity. My only point of feedback is maybe consider adding a collectable so that the player has another goal that motivates them through the map. Great work! I’m starting to get a feel for your style, so I’m looking forward to seeing what you decide to explore for the final!

Such great experimentation and level building play at work! The variety of obstacles and encounters suggests you’re thinking about multiple ways to make the gameplay interesting. I love how you’ve tied things in thematically with the characters, enemies, and environments, which gives the sense of a potential story direction. I’m glad to see the collectible flowers, which are a great incentive and motivation during gameplay. Some of the platforms were a challenge to get to but I still wanted to jump on them all because the game felt very doable. Definitely a playable, viable, and fun game. You’ve done great work on this and you should be proud!

Aaahhh such an enjoyable game! You have such a natural talent for tension and mystery. The storytelling is wonderful and intriguing, and the mood that you crafted and reflected in your design choices and art style is so cohesive and attentive. The way that you chose to use your art and the hazy treatment is very interesting and atmospheric and they suit the story so well. Great artistic choices! If you get the chance to play with sound or some timed affects, definitely go for it. Really inspiring work! Wonderful job and very playable game!

Still such a fun and wonderful concept! Very original idea and very colorfully executed. Your storytelling and character design abilities are such an entertaining and enjoyable selling point for this game. The viability is definitely there and it’s a fun experience to learn about each character and make choices around their stories. The legibility for the text is sometimes a little difficult against the background so definitely watch out for little things like that. Otherwise, great work, great feel and delightful characters. Looking forward to seeing you take unity for a spin!

Really really lovely storytelling and world building. I can really see a lot of growth here from the previous versions. You’re taking into account design choices, story progression, and integrating art that compliments it. The overall feel of the game has a noticeable cohesion. I like how you chose to tint the background color differently throughout the story. It gave me a sense of mood change and progression through the times of day which gave me a deeper sense of immersion. Great job! I hope this is a game that you’ll come back to and keep working on at some point. This is a world that is definitely explorable and fun.

I like how you’ve taken the classic dungeon crawling adventure to this format, and I think you’re definitely working towards capturing that experience. The sounds and visuals are great touches that bring the world to life and trigger surprise or intrigue. It was fun to interact with some enemies and risk my health points. While I enjoyed exploring and taking a whack at a ghoul, or grabbing an amazing sword, I didn’t have a sense of motivation for why either might be rewarding, so definitely hone in on your mechanics but also think about weaving story into your games once you’ve established some basic systems you’re happy with. Just a smidge of story to tie in what’s going on would be real chef’s kiss for elevating this game further. Fantastic work! Can’t wait to see what else you have in store!

I love this game. I love how playfully you’ve approached it and allowed all the elements to play together. The music and sound, the timed triggers, the cute simplistic illustrations— it’s all an excellent demonstration of how we can turn simple interactions (like playing with an elevator) into a fun and engaging story and game. I also love how you tied the points of the story together (being the robed stranger versus the non-robed stranger) and even toying with the player by making them walk down a long hallway only to be right back at the elevator. Just love it. Keep that sense of play and your openness to inviting in simple tricks like sounds or styling. I’m looking forward to seeing what else you come up with this semester! Great work!

This was so simple but fun— I love it! Even when I knew I was going to die from a bad choice, I did it anyway because it was fun and I wanted to see what would happen. Those kind of interactions from players suggest definite viability and fun, and I’d have to agree. You gave a player a good amount of control over their adventure and provided enough options for meaningful choices and memorable interactions. I’d call that a success. I know you struggled to work out some of the bugs with your game but I’m so proud that you pushed through and kept going with it. Great job!!

Wonderful start! I like that you gave the player a brief introduction that outlines what we’re in for— this is actually very very important in game-building. We tend to assume that players will know and automatically understand what they’re working with, but the truth is that we can’t take that for granted! Even though it is still a WIP I can tell that you’re building solid bones for something that feels epic. You’ve given a lot of attention and detail to your design choices to really set a tone that comes through 100%. I hope you’ll consider utilizing sound and music in the future if you keep working on this piece. Adding ambience through sound could really make this story sing. Keep at it!!

Such good storytelling and environment building happening in this game with some great art. You’ve got some real skill in building and maintaining a story cohesively. I would encourage you to find ways to bring more meaningful choice into your narrative to give the player more immersion or engagement. Utilize the platform to make other details come to life: Coding affects, cosmetic design choices, and sounds for immersion are all things you could play with to bring your stories to life. Take risks and experiment! Well done and good work. I’m looking forward to see what you bring to your next game!

This was such a successful piece of storytelling that drew me in slowly and left me feeling soft sadness. I think you utilized twine in a way that worked as a story-telling medium and succeeding in that endeavor. The background images were lovely and really helped set the tone and environment of the dialogue. I think with a few sound effects like crickets or gentle wind, the atmosphere of this piece would really sing. Great job!

Beautiful beautiful work. The time and effort that you put into your game really shines through. The design choices and art marry together very harmoniously. There is good storytelling happening but also meaningful points of interaction for the player. I love the ethereal palettes that you’ve used, the characters that you’ve put together, and the distinct personalities that you’ve given the environments. The addition of animation to your graphics is very ambitious, so kudos to taking a swing at that as well. This game is absolutely playable and viable, as well as fun. I hope you’ll consider working on it more in the future!

This game is funky and weird and it totally works. The story is interesting, you’ve imparted a lot of personality and humor. The interactivity that allows the player to click through and open lines of dialogue feels very engaging despite the game's overall simplicity. Tread carefully on your design choices, particularly colors. The blue and orange choice for links is painful on the eye and hinders legibility. Would love to see this finished one day with some fun art!

Very clean design and clear progression of story. The meaningful choices that you laid out were great and I enjoyed going back and trying other options, so it’s very payable. The design is very interesting but I kind of like that you tried something different by using simplified complimentary images like words and punctuations. I think some small sound effects might have complimented this style particularly well, so I’d urge you to give that a try in the future. I had a very interesting moment at the beginning of wondering what I am, then who I am, and it really sent my imagination running, so great job establishing some intrigue right from the start! Lovely game! Well done.

The addition of sounds is just wonderful. It gives the game and subject matter a boost of life and realness, and the ones you chose are very chef’s kiss. They had me feeling a great sense of immersion and complimented the simplicity of the design and art perfectly. I particularly liked how you paid attention to details like making the word ‘squint’ blurry so that I had a natural reaction to blink a few times and squint— very clever. My only note is to consider more interactivity in your passages. There’s a lot of story to read thus many opportunities where players could click to reveal or pop-up new passages or dialogue so that they feel actively part of investigating the on-going story. Great art, great style choices. Really well done, and well-thought-out game. Congrats!!

Oh no, I died! But this was fun. Great job! You've given the player some good opportunities for making choices and giving some variables to help motivation for for how we make choices. I know this is just a loose sketch but you're doing great with experimenting and stringing together an adventurous storyline. Take a crack at adding an image next and maybe some text-styles to spice up what you've got going on. It's simple but effective and fun!

Great job taking the variable coding for a spin. It gives me a sense of meaning to my actions as I progress. I’d suggest maybe breaking up some of your passages a little. A few seem to have a lot of story happening all at once, which can take the away the player’s ability to interact. Sometimes even just clicking an option to explore an object for more information before continuing provides immersion. It’s ok if you have direction in mind for the player to go, but think about how you can give them chances to learn more and interact with what is happening before you lead them to the next scene. In regards to your query about the story, I think you could actually do both at the same time by building the world out through the eyes of a newcomer. The environment can still be descriptive, building as the player goes in small bite-sized chunks, while the player takes on maybe a more straight-forward or simplified journey or task. Just a suggestion! Keep up the good work!

Very fun! I like the quirkiness of the story and the whimsical sense of humor that you’re bringing to this piece. This just needs a little more conclusion or direction to where the player goes from here to help its viability. Maybe these variables can determine what field of magic the player will study for example. I really like the attention to player choices that you’ve explored here. It may be a very simple game, but it has a strong start that emphasizes investment in player choice. Keep it up!

Lovely addition of art. You should give sound effects a try! The chimes of the elevator moving up or down would add some extra life to the action triggers. You might also take the opportunity to try some timed events on the player to make the elevator come to life as a character. Maybe the door closes after a certain time and the player gets stuck on a floor with a creepy character, etc. Good work! Keep it up.

This is definitely starting to feel like I’m in a dungeon fighting skeletons. You’re using sound and now image in really great ways that establish the environment and keep up with actions. I might suggest working on building into that narrative a little so that the player can feel like there’s a personal connection with the what and why of their dungeon-running. I’m so excited for your game’s development. Keep at it!

Maybe try using the phone’s battery as a variable that triggers things as the battery slowly dies. Circling back to the text message passages, you might give the timed event coding a try. I feel like your game in particular would be even more suspenseful with timed events. I agree with Abe, though— I really like the scrolling quality. It feel reminiscent of scrolling on the phone which makes me feel more like I’m the player and all I have on me is my phone, and I’m freaking out. Keep at it!

You might consider adding the (live: 2.0s) effects you learned about today to the passages with text messaging. It might make those bits feel like there’s a message exchange actually happening for the player. Otherwise, it’s looking good. I see that you're toying with the variables and using this as kind of a testing ground which is great. Keep playing with it!
